Your Questions About the Q3 Offsite. Answered.
Manager OTG sent the calendar invite at 9:43 PM on June 13. It contained a location — Scottsdale Marriott, Agave Ballroom B — a two-day block (June 24–25), and an attached slide titled "Q3 Offsite AGENDA v1.pptx" that, when opened, was blank except for the Lumenwave logo and a placeholder text box that said "TITLE HERE." A follow-up Slack arrived eleven days later: "Details coming!" Many questions remain.
Q: When does it start?
The calendar invite says 9:00 AM Thursday. The invite was updated at 11:52 PM Monday with a note: "Please note: start time may shift to 10:00 depending on travel." The start time in the invite is still 9:00 AM. Nobody has confirmed which time is operative. You will find out Thursday, when you either arrive to an empty Agave Ballroom B at nine or to a room that has been going since ten.
Q: What is the agenda?
There is no agenda. There is an 8:37 PM email from Manager OTG describing the offsite as "a chance to align on priorities and create space for genuine team connection." The email is 247 words long. The email contains zero agenda items. It ends with "come ready to contribute." What you are meant to contribute toward has not been specified.
There is also a Miro board. Manager OTG shared it in Slack on Tuesday morning. It has two sticky notes. One says "Q3 Priorities." One says "What does winning look like?" Both sticky notes are yellow. The board was created June 16. Nobody else has edited it.
Q: Who was invited?
Eighteen people. Three of them do not report to Manager OTG, and none of those three have been told why. Greg has not responded to the invite. Sarah has declined. Kyle has accepted and replied 🙏. Marcus accepted and asked, in the invite comments field, whether there would be a documented output. Manager OTG has not replied to Marcus's question. Marcus's question is nine days old.
Q: Is it mandatory?
The invite says "We'd love to have everyone there!" That sentence means yes.
Q: Are flights covered?
Probably. You have not received an expense policy. You forwarded the invite to Finance on Tuesday morning. Finance said they hadn't heard from Manager OTG. You Slacked Manager OTG. He said to loop Kyle in on logistics. You Slacked Kyle. Kyle said "Circling back with you soon!" That was six days ago. The offsite is in six days. You have not booked a flight.
Q: What did the last offsite produce?
The last offsite was in January, at a Marriott twelve minutes from the Denver airport. It produced a 47-slide deck called "Lumenwave H1 Strategy (FINAL v3)," which Manager OTG presented to Dana and the senior leadership team in February. Three of the eight initiatives were discontinued by April. One initiative — the one that wasn't discontinued — had come from Greg, who described it in a #strategy Slack thread in October. The deck credited Manager OTG as author. The slide featuring Greg's idea did not mention Greg. (Greg has been here four years. He has since updated his LinkedIn.)
Q: What is the purpose of the offsite?
"Alignment," per the 8:37 PM email. "Alignment" is how Manager OTG describes any meeting that takes place in a different room than usual, at greater expense, to discuss things that have already been discussed. The last offsite produced alignment on three initiatives. The Miro board from January has 89 sticky notes. It has not been opened since February 14.
Q: Will there be a retrospective?
Manager OTG has not used the word "retrospective" this year. He has said "How'd you feel about that?" twice — once after the Denver offsite, once after a client call in March that did not go well. Both times he left the room before you answered.
Q: Will outputs be documented?
Per the 8:37 PM email: outputs will live in Notion. There is no Notion folder for this offsite. There is a Notion folder for the January offsite. It contains the 47-slide deck, exported to PDF, and a document called "Offsite Notes – DRAFT." The document has three bullet points. The last edit was January 22. The editor was Greg.
Q: Any other questions for Manager OTG directly?
His Slack status is currently set to "🗓️ In back-to-back — replies will be slow." The status has been active since 9:00 AM. It is 4:17 PM. He has posted twice on LinkedIn since 9:00 AM. The green dot is on. The red dot and the green dot are doing different things.
